For World Book Day, Norwich Primary Academy put the focus on reading with children from Year 1-5 taking part in different activities and encouraging them to read and interact with the books they love. Staff and pupils dressed up as characters from their favourite books, with lots of amazing outfits!

Key Stage 1 took part in arts and crafts activities themed around the books they are currently reading. Pupils made a ladybird from the book “The Bad-Tempered Ladybird” and questioned themselves on “what makes you grumpy?”, with other children getting inspiration from “Room on the Broom” and creating their own broom and characters to interact with the story. An activity, inspired by “Little Rabbit Foo Foo” tasked the pupils with creating stick puppets and performing with them.

For Key Stage 2, the pupils also took part in arts and crafts activities inspired by the books they are reading. Pupils reading “The Hobbit” created fantasy maps drawing inspiration from the classic story. Origami whales were created by children reading “The Snail and the Whale” and flags were designed by pupils from “Swallows and Amazons”, learning about nautical flags and signals along the way.

At Norwich Primary Academy we are proud to have a focus on reading at the heart of our curriculum and as a key step in the development of our pupils. All of our pupils are supported to learn to read and continue to improve throughout their time with us.

Stories and poems feed the imaginations of our pupils and our curriculum allows them to experience high-quality literature and books to not only extend their vocabulary but to also develop their reading comprehension. Celebrating World Book Day as a school is just one way we keep reading at the heart of what we do at Norwich Primary Academy.
